Bright, high and completely unique: the Waschkaue is a unique location where you can still feel very close to the mining past. Celebrate between the former shower benches of the cokers under a sky full of chewing baskets.
The Waschkaue at Kokerei Hansa in Dortmund is an impressive example of the industrial charm of the Ruhr region and is now used as a unique event location. Originally, the washing room served as a changing room for the workers at the Hansa coking plant. This is where the cokers put on their work clothes and deposited their clean clothes in the washing baskets, which were hung from the ceiling to protect them from dirt and theft. These can still be seen today.
Kokerei Hansa, which went into operation in 1928, was a central part of the coal and steel industry in the Ruhr region. After its closure in 1992, the buildings initially fell into disrepair until the site was preserved as an industrial monument as part of extensive renovation measures and made usable for new purposes.
Today, the Waschkaue is an impressive venue that offers a special atmosphere for events such as weddings, company celebrations and cultural events with its authentic industrial charm. The combination of historical building fabric and modern event concept makes the location a popular venue for a wide variety of events and demonstrates the successful transformation of the former industrial facility into a lively cultural and event location in Dortmund.
